What is Buy Nothing Day?
In the United States the last Friday of November, the day after Thanksgiving, is traditionally the start of the Christmas shopping season. It is therefore the biggest shopping day of the year.We residents of other Christmas-celebrating countries are also well into the swing of an annual multi-billion dollar shopping binge. What better time to point out that we consume way, way more than our share, and to challenge people to see if they can go just 24 hours without purchasing a single thing.
Hence, Buy Nothing Day, now celebrated around the world. So on November 26th, 2004, remember to tell yourself
